University of Southern California Screens Documentary on 'Legacy of Imam W. Deen Mohammed'

Los Angeles, CA - On Thursday, April 20, the University of Southern California hosted a public screening of BAIT-CAL's historic documentary "The Legacy of Imam W. Deen Mohammed." The screening, which was held at the USC School of Cinematic Arts Complex, George Lucas Building, was part of a multiple joint effort to present the history of African-American Muslims.

Several major Islamic organizations took part in the event including Muslim Public Affairs Council, CAIR, Bilal Islamic Center Foundation and Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Foundation.

The evening also included a showing of Mizan Studio's new documentary "Lost-Found: The African American's Journey to Al-Islam" and featured a panel discussion between films.

"The Legacy of Imam W. Deen Mohammed" is the most comprehensive documentary ever produced on the life of the late Muslim American leader. The film has received critical acclaim nationwide for it's amazing narrative and footage documenting Imam W. Deen Mohammed's incredible story.

The film is written & directed by Samir Muqaddin, who does a masterful job in presenting the information. The story is highlighted by a rare interview with Imam Mohammed's son, Warith Deen Mohammed II.

USC doctoral student, Maytha Alhassen, moderated a powerful panel discussion between films. Participants included Captain Naim Shah Sr., "Lost-Found" Director Shareef Nasir, "The Legacy" Producer Lon Muqaddin and Historian Imam Abdul Karim Hasan.

"Our company was blessed to cover Imam Mohammed's journey from the very beginning in 1975," stated film producer Lon Muqaddin. "We sent camera crews around the world to document his efforts and now we're bringing his story to mainstream America."

BAIT-CAL has been in discussions with USC to develop a database of film, video, photo's and memorabilia that depicts the history of Muslims in America. The university would then link this information to their central database and make it available to an unprecedented audience worldwide. The USC film school department has played a primary role in these discussions.

"Many people are unaware of Imam Mohammed's tremendous achievements," added Muqaddin. "He literally changed the course of U.S. history by converting nearly 2 million African Americans to mainstream Islam. Our documentary lets his story be known."
