MEMORY OF IMAM W. DEEN MOHAMMED

LOS ANGELES, CA - On Saturday, November 21, 2009, Masjid Bilal officially dedicated its highly successful new school in memory of late Muslim leader, Imam W. Deen Mohammed. The Bilal Learning Center, which was completed in 2007 has become a bright beacon of light for the city of Los Angeles. The multi-million dollar facility, which was built with private donations and investment dollars is home for the Center for Advanced Learning . CAL is a Los Angeles Unified School District public charter school that educates more than 300 students from the surrounding community grades Kindergarten through 5th.

 

Bilal Learning Center Dedication

In just 3 years, CAL has surged to #3 in the city for academic test scores. The schools student body is a rare mix of Latino, African-American and Muslim children. Through generous donations, the school features an impressive computer lab that gives inner city kids a rare opportunity to work with computers and the internet. City officials have given the school extremely high praise for their achievements.

 

Bilal Learning Center Contributors

Masjid Bilal, which owns the property, also announced they have received their permanent licenses from the city for operating the full-time school. At the dedication, school director, Imam Abdul Karim Hasan unveiled a special plaque that dedicated the school to Imam Mohammed and listed the major contributors. A number of dignitaries and contributors attended the ceremony, along with members of the community.
